The sub-series consists of letterbooks containing copies of outgoing correspondence from Deputy Postmasters General Thomas Stayner, 1841-1851 (Vols. 907-919, 1125) and William Henry Griffin, 1844-1846 (Vol. 920). The Stayner correspondence comprises letters to the General Post Office, London, England and to various Post Office Surveyors or Inspectors as they became known; frequently, the letters are acknowledgements of correspondence received or directions to carry out instructions and regulations. Such correspondence provides useful information on the early development of the Post Office in the Province of Canada. Also included is a small collection of correspondence and reports for the years 1844-1846 created by William Henry Griffin, which covers postal matters such as fines for negligent postmasters and improvements in the letter carrying system (Vol. 920). Volume 1007 consists of correspondence for the years 1831-1881 on various postal matters.
