He played a significant part in the Rebellions of 1837. He was one of the most vigorous defenders of the Patriote Cause. He attended all the meetings in Richelieu County and incited the people to revolt. He established a branch of the Fils de la Liberté in his village. When the Rebellions broke out he was one of the first to take up arms. He took part in the Battle of Saint Denis and in the one at Saint-Charles. His house was burned by the British and when he tried to escape to the United States, he was captured and jailed and subsequently exiled to Bermuda.
