In 1837 A.J. Miller accompanied Sir William Drummond Stewart to the Rocky Mountains, and painted the scenery along the way and sketches of the natives he encountered. He later produced copies after original drawings and watercolours taken on the trip, including three sets of watercolours. This work is a part of one set of forty-one, which was donated to the Public Archives of Canada in 1946. Each work was laid down, matted and titled by the artist. They date from 1867.Custodial history:The set was purchased by Sir Alexander Hargreaves Brown, Liverpool, England; thence went to Mrs. J. B. Jardine, the donor, whose husband was Brigadier-General J.
