Elle s'est produite alors d'un petit groupe de Cris et d'Assiniboine a été attaqué à la colline de Cut Knife par des troupes composées de la Police montée du Nord-Ouest (cavalerie), batterie « B», compagnie « C», de l'infanterie, Queen's Own Rifles of Canada et les Battleford Rifles dirigés par le lieutenant-colonel WD Otter. Les Cris et les Assiniboines ont défait les forces canadiennes, avec des pertes des deux côtés.
