Support x cmLanguage of material:no languageScope and content:Item consists of a painting entitled "Storming of Quebec, 1759" showing a view from a height looking along the St. Lawrence, upon which men-of-war and numerous lighters are landing troops who are swarming up the heights on the left. Work is by Francis Swaine (1719/20-1782) after a sketch by Hervey Smyth. The work was formerly attributed to Benjamin West.Provenance:Additional name(s):Additional information:General note:This work was not accessioned when it first came to the Public Archives. It is mentioned in RG 37 "C" Series records, Vol. 335, file 1921-140. It was formerly attributed to Benjamin West, but in 1957, during restoration, Swaine`s signature was found on a rock in the left foreground..
