Division of Building Research : Building research was a function of the National Research Council practically from the beginning, with a publication on the heating of homes produced by the Honorary Advisory Council for Scientific and Industrial Research of Canada in 1918. Studies and research in this area gradually increased, with the Division of Building Research formed in 1947, and laboratories officially opening six years later.
