The series includes the following: a letterbook of outgoing correspondence of Indian Agent John McIntyre, 1881-1885 (reel T-11945); incoming correspondence, 1880-1893 (reel T-11945); band complaints, 1905-1911 (reel T-11945); estimates, 1894-1895 (reel T-11945); and a daily journal, 1895 (reel T-11946). Technical problems in the filming process has resulted in the records being incorrectly positioned on the film. In order to utilize the film, the lens of the reader needs to be rotated 180 degrees and in some cases 225 degrees, in order to view the documentation.Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Canada. Rat Portage Inspectorate : The former Rat Portage (Kenora) Inspectorate of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development covered Ojibwa (Saulteaux) Bands on Lake of the Woods, as well as others in the vicinity of present-day Dryden, Ontario. Although the appointment of the first agent at the Assabaskasing Agency was confirmed on 11 May 1877, it was made retroactive to 1 January 1877. With the appointment of a new agent in 1888, the headquarters of the agency was moved to the new Rat Portage Agency. The Rat Portage Inspectorate was created when the Savanne and Rat Portage agencies were closed in 1897 and placed under the supervision of an inspector, L.J.A. Levecque. In 1903, an Indian agent was reappointed for these agencies. In 1906 this second Rat Portage Agency became part of the Kenora Agency.
