In general, the topic are marriages and cards indicate date, names of husbands and their fathers and mothers, as well as the parish where took place the event. The collection also contains information on marriage contracts, as well as newspaper cuttings, obituaries and some photographs.
The cards are classified in two series (vols 2-236) according to an alphabetical order of the surnames. The first series covers the oldest catholic parishes of the area of Outaouais (Québec and Ontario), as several parishes of the East and the North of Ontario, and the county of Pontiac (see H-1023 reels in H-1047). The second series refers to Québec, especially with the parishes of the surrounding of the Montréal Island and the surrounding counties of Vaudreuil, Châteauguay, Huntingdon, Beauharnois, l'Assumption, Laval, Deux-Montagnes and Argenteuil, as well as with some parishes of the circumference of the Lac St-Pierre (see H-1048 reels to H-1092). This second series also contains cards on marriages of Acadian from the Pince Edward Island and other cards compiled information drawn from the Saguenayensis review. Collection also includes some genealogical notes, classified in files (vol. 1).Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Fabien, Jacques-Henri, d1974 : Jacques-Henri Fabien (deceased in 1974) was member of the Société généalogique canadienne-française (Section of Ottawa-Hull) during several years. He wrote many articles which appeared in the Mémoires de la Société généalogique canadienne-française and he drew up a significant index on cards of the births, marriages and deaths which have occurred in Ontario, in Québec and in certain areas of the Prince Edward Island.Additional information:General note:The index cards were received in 1975 and 1980; the genealogical notes were transferred in 1984 from the Gravelle Collection (MG25-G271).Formatted contents note:The index was mainly prepared with information drawn from the parochial registers and the notarial acts, but certain data also come from newspaper cuttings.Availability of other formats note:Since 1981, the index cards are also available on microfilm, reels H-1023 to H-1092.Related material:See also Gravelle Collection MG25-G271.Subject heading:- Ontario
