The fonds also includes 969 electoral mapsProvenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Social Credit Rally. Social Credit Party of Canada : Stemming from various Social Credit movements in Quebec, the Ralliement was created in 1958 to work on the federal political scene. It was recognized by the Social Credit Party of Canada as the sole spokesperson for Quebec Social Credit. Its leader, Réal Caouette, was elected vice-president of the Social Credit Party of Canada in 1960 and deputy to national leader Robert Thompson the following year. In 1962 the Quebec wing had 26 of the 30 Social Credit members elected to the Canadian Parliament.
Following internal dissension, Réal Caouette dissociated himself from the national party in 1963 and took with him the majority of Quebec Creditist deputies, thus confirming the complete autonomy of his movement. From the 1968 election, the Ralliement was the only party with Social Credit members. It officially became the Social Credit Party of Canada in 1972.
In November 1976, Réal Caouette was replaced by André Fortin as party leader. The latter died in June 1977 and was temporarily replaced by Gilles Caouette. A leadership convention elected Lorne Reznowski in May 1978. The latter resigned in February 1979. The parliamentary leader, Charles-Arthur Gauthier assumed the interim until the appointment of Fabien Roy by the caucus of deputies in March 1979. The latter led the 1979 electoral campaign and had 6 deputies elected. In the February 1980 elections, no Social Credit candidate was elected and Fabien Roy resigned the same year.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Generally speaking, the documents were acquired between 1973 and 1994 from the party. However, some of these were acquired in 1975 (vols. 1-3) from Mr. Réal Caouette and in 1980 (vols. 4-94) from Mr. Robert Klinck, National Secretary of the Social Credit Party of Canada. The microfilm is taken from the originals which belonged to Mr. Réal Caouette. Some records (vol. 103-105) were acquired in 2023 from the succession of Lorne Reznowski.Source :PrivéAncien no de référence archivistique :MG28-IV10 -
