The series consists of records created or accumulated by the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) in its role as the governing body for the sport of cycling in Canada. The records date from the period after the CCA transitioned from a volunteer-driven organization (long known as the Canadian Wheelmen's Association) to become a professionally managed sports governing body headquartered in Ottawa. The series consists of 7 sub-series: subject files documenting CCA administration and policy in areas ranging from office management to recreation programs and the emergence of new classes of cycle sport (1964-1984, predominantly 1978-1982); competition files documenting national and international races or training events involving the CCA or Canadian cyclists (1967-1983, predominantly 1971-1983); general correspondence files (ingoing, outgoing, telexes) and personal files maintained by CCA officials for their own use (1972-1983); manuals, published reports and promotional material (1969-1982); financial records documenting CCA grant applications, cash flows, budgets and athlete trust funds (1968-1982); membership, staffing and club affiliations records (1961-1982); and scrapbooks containing newspaper articles published in 1973-1974 and 1981-1982 on all aspects of cycling.
