With its headquarters at Montreal, the Eastern Region of the St. Lawrence Seaway system extends from the lock at St. Lambert to Lake Ontario just beyond the Iroquois locks. This section includes seven locks, five of which are in Canada. The Seaway's Engineering Services Branch is also located in Eastern Region, and its primary function is to ensure the integrity and reliability of all locks and canal installations. To do this the branch oversees the civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering requirements in the design, maintenance, and repair of seaway facilities. In addition, the branch is responsible for preparing contract specifications for all structures and facilities in Eastern and Western Region.
This accession consists of records from Eastern Region. Included is a broad range of central registry files covering various aspects of its activities such as navigation, traffic, cargo shipping statistics, administration, and reports on lock operations.
