The Health Services and Promotion Branch was established in July 1978 to encourage and assist Canadians to adopt a way of life that enhanced their physical and mental well-being and to provide leadership and coordination in assisting the provinces and territories to bring their health services to, and maintain them at, national standards.

These records document the proceedings of various federal-provincial conferences and committee meetings on health and welfare involving Ministers, Deputy, Assistant-Deputy Ministers as well as various internal working committees of government. Those subjects covered include; fiscal and program relationship in social security programs, community health proposals, health information exchange systems, and hospital standards

The accession consists of documentation accumulated by the Branch in the form of discussion papers, minutes of meetings, conference notes and reports as well as proposals.
