Portée et contenu :

After the capture of Louisbourg by the British in 1758 Amherst was made Commander-in-chief of the British Army in North America. His subsequent military achievements at Fort Ticonderoga, Crown Point, Lake Champlain and Fort Niagara and the surrender of Montreal, earned him miliatry renown. He was knighted in 1761, became Baron Amherst of Holmesdale, Kent in 1776, and Baron Amherst of Montreal, Kent in 1788. This miniature is a copy after a portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds now in the Amherst College Collection of the Mead Art Gallery., Colour transparency: recto framed, This miniature has also been copied under black and white negative number: C-095805.
