Clinton, the Honourable F. Somerville, Major Large, Captain Payne, and a Mr. Bowen. The first 28 pages of the album focus on a military man's experiences in Canada in the 1860s. The photographs, of which 3 are Notman's, include rare views of Hamilton and Grimsby, as well as of Kingston, Ontario. Subject matter includes officer's quarters, the mess, rifle range and other military activities, garrison theatricals, sleighing and other sports activities. There are also views of Quebec City and Montreal, Quebec, including views of prominent buildings and monuments as well as copies of Canadian paintings, including some by Krieghoff.
