Ships' dockets are created for vessels upon their registration at various ports of registry. They contain the original transcripts of the ships' papers including certificate of registration, certificate of inspection, survey reports, mortgage notices and correspondence between the owner of the vessel and the registrar of shipping. Dockets have been created by Registrars of Shipping in the following ports of registry: Annappolis Royal, NS, Arichat, NS, Barrington Passage, NS, Bathurst, NB, Campbellton, NB, Canso, NS, Caraquet, NB, Chatham, NB, Digby, NS, Gaspe, PQ, Grand Manan, NB, Halifax, NS, La Have, NS, Liverpool, NS, Lunenburg, NS, Moncton, NB, Montreal, PQ, Ottawa, ON, Parrsboro, NS, Pictou, NS, Quebec, PQ, Saint John, NB, Shelburne, NS, St. Andrews, NB, Sydney, NS, Weymouth, NS, Windsor, NS and Yarmouth, NS. Note that some dockets list two separate ports of registry, likely because the vessel was moved to a different administrative unit during the period in which the docket was being added to. Also, note that the dates reported for these dockets only reflect the registration date, not the date range of the records contained in each docket. It should be assumed that records in a docket cover a range of dates both before and after the date of registration. To get a sense of the date range, it may be helpful to locate listings in the relevant Register of Shipping (port and year) to verify how long any particular vessel remained actively registered, and therefore how long we can assume the docket was being added to by Registrar staff.
