The fonds also contains photographs depicting the activities of Leo Kennedy and his relatives in Verdun, Que,; Chicago, Ill.; and Norwalk, Conn., 1929-1950Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Kennedy, Leo, 1907-2000 : Leo Kennedy, poet and journalist, was born in Liverpool, England. He immigrated to Montreal with his family in 1912. He attended the University of Montreal, 1926-1928, and was associated with the Montreal group of poets including A.M. Klein, F.R. Scott and A.J.M. Smith. He co-founded and co-edited the Canadian Mercury, 1928-1929, and contributed to various periodicals, such as the Canadian Forum and McGill Fortnightly Review. His book of poetry, The Shrouding, reprinted in 1975, was first published in 1933.
Kennedy left Montreal for Toronto in the 1930s, where he worked in advertizing while contributing to the socialist journal New Frontier. He then moved to Chicago where he continued to work in the advertizing business and contributed book reviews to the Chicago Sun. Kennedy eventually settled in New England, where he had a long career as a staff writer for Reader's Digest.
