The textual component of the fonds consists of Executive Committee minutes, 1887-1944, volume 1; publication; Executive Committee minutes, Oct. 1947 - Nov. 1960, 10.1 cm, volume 2; Executive Committee minutes, Jan. 1961 - Nov. 1968, 50.8 cm, volume 3; and Annual General Meetings and Council Meetings, minutes, 1883-1914, 50.8 cm, volume 3.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Dominion of Canada Rifle Association : The Dominion of Canada Rifle Association was formed as an incentive for Canadian men to become thoroughly familiar with the use of the rifle and perfect themselves in the art of shooting.
The first meeting was held in Ottawa on 1 April 1868, with the purpose of forming a Council. At this meeting, the rules of the Association were framed with a view of holding out strong inducements to encourage the formation of affiliated associations throughout the Dominion. Thirty-three associations thus connected themselves with the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association.
The Annual Meeting of the Association is held each year in Ottawa. The Annual Competition Meet, however, is held in various parts of the Dominion. The first Competition Meet was held in 1868, in Laprairie, Que. with competitors from all across the Dominion.
