After World War II, the work of the division was organized into two branches called Pure Chemistry and Applied Chemistry, each of which became a separate division with its own director by the early 1950's. The purpose of the Pure Research Division was to conduct long-term research in the major fields of chemistry. The Applied Chemistry Division was largely responsible for chemical engineering and its industrial applications. Later, in 1969, these two divisions were reunited into a single Division of Chemistry.
Accession consists of laboratory reports, correspondence and meeting minutes from the Division of Chemistry.
