The Canadian Air Transportation Administration (CATA) of Transport Canada directs the management of all operational, developmental, and regulatory activities of the administration in support of aeronautics, and is responsible for maintaining and promoting all aspects of air safety.
To carry out its mandate effectively, CATA is divided into a number of administrative units including the Airport Construction Services Directorate. This directorate is responsible for establishing policies and
standards for safe and efficient airport facilities and services, and for directing the development of plans and programs affecting the future of the national airports system.
The records in this accession consist of data compiled on aircraft movements at all airports in Canada. Take-offs and landings are recorded by day, and by type of aircraft (civil, military, government and so on); at
the end of each month a summary of movements, and other data was compiled. The records are used for planning and development of airports and airport facilities. This accession also includes the civil aircraft register (on fiche), 1976-1983 and runway utilization statistics, 1980-1983.
