In this system, primary numbers are allotted to subjects (e.g., 4733 Cultural Affairs-General) and the primary subject further refined and made more specific by the use of secondary (and sometimes tertiary) numbers for specific files (e.g., 4733-7 Cultural Affairs-General-Potlatch Artifacts).
