He studied at universities in St. Petersburg and also in Lviv, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Active in Ukrainian political and revolutionary organizations, he was one of the founding members of the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine in 1914. When the Ukrainian Hetmanate Government was formed in 1918, he was head of the official news agency. With the collapse of the armed struggle for the liberation of Ukraine (1918-1922), he returned to live in Lviv then under Polish administration. He edited several Ukrainian journals in Lviv during the 1920's and 1930's. His political writings inspired a generation of Ukrainian youth and formed the ideological basis of the Ukrainian integral nationalist movement of that period.
After the Second World War, Dontsov emigrated to the United States and within a short time arrived in Canada and settled in Montreal, Quebec. From 1948 to 1953, he lectured on Ukrainian literature at the Université de Montréal. During his years of retirement, he continued to write articles and books promoting Ukrainian nationalism and anti-communism and on religious, literary and philosophical themes. Dontsov died in Montreal on March 30, 1973, and is buried in the Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Donated by Mr. George Salsky.Vedette-matière :Source :PrivéAncien no de référence archivistique :MG31-D130 -
