This sub-series (formerly sub-series C I) contains many views of Toronto, Ontario, probably taken by the Toronto Harbour Commission and possibly some by the Toronto Transportation Commission and Toronto City Engineers. One 1930 negative of a flying boat is marked "Negative by A. Goss" of the Toronto Department of Works. The photographs were predominantly taken in the area of the Toronto harbour front, the Don River, and Humber River and consists of views of vessels visiting the harbour including steamers, freighters, ferries, scows, yachts, launches, foreign vessels, schooners, passenger ships; a few ship interiors, often identified by name (including the Bluenose); vessels used in the harbour such as tugs, dredges, steam shovels, pile drivers, derricks, barges, etc.; other large machines in harbour area such as derricks, steam rollers, steam powered concrete mixer and others generally involved with construction or repair projects; vessels of the Ottawa River Navigation Company barges repairing water mains in Toronto; the official boat of the 4th Wrigley Marathon at the Canadian National Exhibition; Toronto Life Saving & Police Patrol boats in harbour, boathouse, and building, 1928-1934; moving Grand Trunk Railroad bridge on Don Diversion, 1914; construction of steel plant of British Forgings Limited, 1917; construction of plant of Dominion Shipbuilding Company, 1918.
Views throughout Toronto include panoramas of wharves, docks, elevators, lighthouses, a fruit terminal, industrial districts; views of railway engines, tracks, trains (Grand Trunk and Canadian National), crossings; Toronto Transit Commission trolleys, automobiles, tracks, and standards (material covers views of a variety of vehicles including buses, trackless trolley buses, McMyler crane, white buses, Yellow Coaches, Parlour Coaches, "DeLuxe" coaches, trucks, Raidal Express car, electric cars, variety of Gray Coach vehicles and Gray cabs, and streetcars, identifiable by number, on various streets); views of dangerous collision situations between Toronto Transit Commission vehicles and automobiles, for the Ontario Safety League; Toronto Transit Commissions construction of tracks in streets and burning of old, open coaches; Harbour Commissioners Building, old Fort York, Sunnyside Amusement Park, terminals, stations, machine shop, forge shop all from ca. 1922; Imperial Oil truck fuelling sea plane,1930; Toronto Air Harbour,1934; Supertest station, 1930 and Shell gas station, 1931; interior of car shop, Front Street; superintendents office at Motor Shop, Sherbourne Street; streetcar track machinery and streetcars of T.R. Company, 1921.
There are also a number of river, lake, harbour and canal views in the sub-series such as the locks at Lakefield ? and Sault Ste. Marie; steamers; sailing ships; the S.S. Georgian of Seaway Lines Limited; self-unloading steamers discharging cargo; ships near Quebec; freighters of the Canadian Steamship Lines shown with the crews on strike in 1948; dry docks, Louise Basin; Davie Shipbuilding & Repair Company Limited as well as a portrait of Mr. Davie, 1917; steamer Assiniboia at the Hudson Bay Company's post at Cedar Lake at the mouth of Saskatchewan River, North West Territories; steamer Thompson at Shuswap Lake, British Columbia, 1904; Welland Ship Canal construction on Lock 2, September 17th, 1915; S.S. Thorold in Welland Ship Canal, June 6th, 1933; various steamers in harbours and dry-dock, 1919; the ship Violet; Quebec harbour; Bermuda harbour scenes; Georgetown harbour, British Guiana, 1900; wreck of two ships, piers, Canadian schooners, and a lighthouse at Oswego, New York; St. Peter's Canal at Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, 1914; landing the trans-Atlantic cable at Carbonear, Newfoundland; whale, Harbour Grace, Nfld; tractor on Screw Pontoons, houses, and harbour, St. John's, Nfld; lighthouse; codfish drying; fishing schooners at Newfoundland; Maitland River West by Y.H. Brophey, Goderich; harbour at Owen Sound, Ontario; lift locks at Peterborough, Ontario; Sault Ste. Marie canal, 1894; liner to pick up Duke & Duchess of Cornwall, October, 1901; lighthouse beacon, Red Rock, n.d.; Mr. Grant and Captain MacKay of the Noronic, June 8, 1931; ruins of the Noronic after fire Sept 19,1949; a few negatives by J.W. Bald, Midland; some unidentified British, French and other ships and vessels, one by E. Poole; various American vessels; some views of Canadian vessels, dated ca. 1900-1938, are organized alphabetically A-Yu by name of vessel; various other views of canals, canal construction, harbours, tugs, steamers, and dredges; and views of Eric & St. Lawrence Corporation, Fundy Dredging Company, Northern Navigation Company, and the Canadian Dredge & Dock Company Ltd., Midland, Ontario.
The steam and electric railways represented in this sub-series include Quebec & Lake St. John Railway and station; Asbestos & Asbestic Company, Kingston, Ontario; Atchison, Topeka & Sante Fe; Baldry Yerburgh & Hutchinson Ltd., Kingston, Ontario; Boston & Albany engines; Casey-Cavin Reverse Gear, as designed at Canadian Locomotive Company Kingston, Ontario, patented 1913-14; Chicago, Burlington & Quincey Railway; Canadian National engine 1922-1924-25, Toronto; Canadian Northern, Montreal, Quebec, n.d. and Leaside, 1924; Canadian Pacific stations, one view at Port McNicoll; Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific; Delaware, Lackawanna & Western locomotive; Erie Railway engine; Grand Trunk Railway, St. Catharine's, Ontario by E. Poole; Grand Trunk Railway at Leaside, 1924; Grand Trunk Pacific engines and steam shovel at Montreal, Quebec and Lakefield, Ontario; Hamilton & North Western Railway; Intercolonial Railway, Montreal; J. D. Anne de Beaupre Railway, Quebec.
Additionally, there are various other unidentified views of engines, boxcars, tank cars, stations, plows, sweepers, and electric streetcars in Ontario and Quebec, and unidentified engines of the Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo Railway; views of American and Canadian railway cars in unidentified yard and close-ups of muddy ground between tracks, early 1900's; boulevard between Table Rock and Refectory, July 17th, 1920, with streetcar tracks; entrance to Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, April 11th, 1930; railway tracks and car barns, 1920-1921; "B. of L.E. Special passing through St. Thomas, May 21/10 - 224 miles in 217 minutes without a stop." and a WWI troop train leaving St. Thomas by J. Jackson of St. Thomas, Ontario.
Other forms of transportation represented include airplanes such as Curtiss' "Jenny", Vickers Vimy (Alcock & Brown), an "elephant" biplane, Eastern Provincial Airways Limited, Trans-Canada Air lines and the "Santa Maria" of Aeromarine Flying Cruiser, U.S. & Cuban Mail Service in the Toronto harbour; automobiles such as 1917,1914, Model T. Ford by McLaughlin Auto and a view of Willy's Overland Cars, a car dealership; Gray Coach Line and Arrow Coach Line busses, 1930; Sawyer-Massey steam traction engines; a florist's truck; ox teams in Nova Scotia, 1911; Calvin Company timber raft; whaling steamer, St. Lawrence; examples of automobiles, a fire pumper, a sleigh, a cart, a carriage, trucks, a ski-doo, and a steam roller.
There are many miscellaneous views of locations all over Canada, although predominantly of Ontario, including Belleville, Bobcaygeon, Bothwell, Port Carling, and Port Cockburn, Ontario; cutting ice, Gray-Dort Factory, and a blacksmith at Chatham; Canadian Cotton Limited at Cornwall; Centennial celebrations, Hamilton Steel & Iron Company Limited at Hamilton, 1907-1908; tobogganing in High Park, n.d.; naked Doukhobors demonstrating; General Booth of the Salvation Army; fire department, skating rink, and snow plow train at Peterborough, 1923; Maple Leaf Rubber Company plant, Port Dalhousie; Stephenson House, 1913 at St. Catherines; temporary and covered bridge, ca. 1913-1914 at Trenton; views of maple sugaring and horse drawn sleighs, carriages, delivery wagons and fire equipment in Peterborough, Chatham, and Bothwell, Ontario all by Gibson Photo of Chatham; horse treadmill, Powell House (1907) and the canal at Iroquois, Ontario; New Ladysmith Lumber Company and the Robert McNair Shingle Company, Kingston. Views of Quebec include the wreckage of first Quebec bridge; fire department and a steam pumper on a sleigh; ca. 10 views of construction of Quebec Bridge, 1917; Lauzon Post Office; French warship off Quebec during Tercentenary, 1908. There is also a view of aerial sealing at Botwood, Newfoundland, 1921, by Holloway.
Unidentified views of shop interiors of grocery, barber, dentist, law office, business offices, mail room ?, veterinarian, tailor's, piano store, men's hat store, shoemaker, shoeshine, butcher, candy shop, fabric shop, millinery, hardware store, tack and trap shop, cigar shop and a hardware store; unidentified people, marine construction views, landscapes and buildings, iceberg, machinery, canal, bridge, steamers, railway, factory, and a maple sap carrier (some of Brockville and Cornwall area).
There are ca. 78 lantern slides in the sub-series that contain views of the following: schooner near Port Dalhousie, 1901; locomotives, framed by "John H. Thurston, stereopticons"; Central Pacific Railway snow plow; Northern & North-Western Railway, Ontario; half-stereo of Quebec from Levis; Toronto Union station & harbour; views of steamers, two by Topley; ca. 10 locomotive views in New York, ca. 1892-93 by "Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences", Charles J. Tagliabue; ca. 34 views of electric Railways in Canada and New York such as St. Clair Tunnel Company and the London & Port Stanley Railway, one by Charles Potter, Toronto; c.11 copies from books of Toronto Transit Commission buses, streetcars, two by Charles Potter, Toronto; also U.S.A. views of a stage coach, bridge, harbour, and electric trains. Along with those listed above, the lantern slide collection also has works of the following photographers; Detroit Photographic Company; Keystone View Company; James M. Kimball; T.H. McAllister Mfg. Opticians, New York; W. H. Lawrence & B.S. Turpin, Boston; Riley - Sloan Company Incorporated, New York; Wm. T. Gregg, New York; A. P. Yates, Syracuse, 1891; Charles Beseler, New York; and the H. C. White & Company of Vermont.
Several views in the sub-series are attributed to J. E. Livernois (uncertain) including three collodion half-stereos, 1858 ?; Quebec from Levis; Champlain market, Quebec; two of Chicoutimi, Quebec; fishing through ice, Newfoundland; Kent Gate, Quebec; bow loading of timber at Quebec onto Paramatta (R. R. Dobell ?); plus 15 other Quebec and steamer views, one signed by J. E. Livernois. Others are attributed to Micklethwaite including 16 views of Muskoka and one view of Toronto and all but one are signed. There are also two images attributed to Topley; an unidentified steamer and an interior of a locomotive works.
There are also views of disasters and accidents including train wrecks, marine wrecks, burning cars and one railroad wreck dated 1884. - Nom(s) additionnel(s) :
