The correspondence consists of letters, as well as selected emails delivered to the Prime Minister's general account (the latter were printed for addition to the file). The correspondence was mainly received from constituents throughout the country, though there are also invitations, gifts (usually removed and replaced by photos), correspondence from dignitaries, and political correspondence (often suggestions from senators or backbench MPs).
The incoming correspondence is typically accompanied by multiple drafts of responses generated by staff. Annotations by the Prime Minister are not uncommon.
Subjects reflect the major news stories of the Harper era. Key topics include: firearms regulation; the Afghanistan mission of the Canadian Forces; same-sex marriage; abortion; the environment; the Canada-US softwood lumber framework; the cancellation of home mail delivery; human trafficking; the Truth and Reconciliation Commission; the Fair Elections Act; the global economic crisis of 2008 and its aftermath; the coalition government in 2008; the Vancouver Olympics; the situation in Ukraine; residential schools; Canadian presence in the Arctic; calls for a murdered and missing Indigenous women's inquiry; changes to the Temporary Foreign Workers program; support for Israel; the refugee crisis; and the Senate expenses scandal.Information additionnelle :Note sur la description matérielle :Digital records received in the following file format(s): MOV (457.37 MB), MP4 (197.02 MB), PPT (36.2 MB) and JPG (16.9 MB).Note sur le classement :Files are arranged chronologically (first by year, then by month), then alphabetically within each month by last name of correspondent.
