Series consists of analogue and digital records created or maintained by staff in the Office of the Prime Minister - Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) unit between 2006 and 2015.
The bulk of the records in this series pertain to the role played by the DCOS unit in coordinating the flow of formal advice sent to the Prime Minister on a daily basis by the Clerk of the Privy Council, Office of the Prime Minister (PMO) staff, and others. These records include PMO and Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) memoranda; formal Office of the Privy Council advice (termed "PCO notes"); copies of notes and memos bearing the Prime Minister's annotations (termed "returns"); incoming and outgoing letters; and internal documents used to track the progress of notes, memos, and returns.
Other records within the series include working files belonging to various staff members in the DCOS unit; files relating to DCOS and PMO office administration, human resources, and management; and files documenting the DCOS unit's role in the government appointments process, in the supervision of the "ethical wall" governing the flow of information to Chief of Staff Nigel Wright, in coordinating daily department head meetings and ministerial travel requests, and in providing information and advice to ministers' offices.
Series is arranged into seven sub-series: Human resources and office administration; Performance management, appointments, and succession planning; Department heads; Ethical wall; Letters; Ministers' offices (MINO) and ministers' regional offices (MRO); and Advice to the Prime Minister. The latter includes sub-sub-series devoted to [Incoming] Privy Council Office (PCO) notes, Privy Council Office (PCO) notes for consideration to arm [auto-sign], Travel notes, Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) memos, Prime Minister's returns, Miscellaneous memos, and Advice tracking sheets).
