This accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Communications Directorate of National Health and Welfare.
The accession includes, but is not limited to, communications products and course materials related to civil defence courses that were offered at the Civil Defence College in Arnprior in the 1950s and 1960s. They included courses for teenagers, pharmacists, agrologists, and nurses. Attendees were taught a variety of skills related to emergency preparedness in the event of a nuclear attack. For photos relating to this material, please consult accession 1997-02075-0, Box 1.
Also included in this accession are records relating to information on field tests for improvised hospitals from 1966, a list of photo captions relating to health education and programs in northern Canada, a list of photo captions of a Community Health Worker Training Program given in Fort San Saskatchewan in 1970, and a list of people captured in a photograph from the Provincial Coordinators Conference at Civil Defence College date.
Additionally, this accession contains lists of AV material with correspondence related to films in the National Medical and Biological Film Library, which includes educational films for medical students and practitioners; minutes from the Medical and Biological Film Library Committee that included discussions about the National Medical and Biological Film Library Program; two lists of films from the Medical Services Branch for program aids and resources; and a list of Canadian Sources of Health Films.
