Textual records: (Papier) The finding aid is a file list created by the RCMP Archives Management Section. The operational, administrative and microform records' listings are in FoxPro (.dbf) format. [he diskette also contains listings in Wordperfect (.wpd) format which pertain to Acc. 97-98/345 MIKAN# 49536 (FA 18-59). The finding aid is open. 18-57 (66:Expurgé)

Note générale :

These records relate to the 1976 Olympics held in Montreal, Quebec. The Olympic Games of 1976 were one of the largest public events in Canadian history. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were responsible for upholding federal legislation, liaising with other federal, provincial, municipal and civil authorities, as well as fulfilling the obligations of federal security responsibilities. The RCMP appointed a Federal Security Coordinator to oversee the Force's involvement and to act as the federal liaison for the numerous security committees that developed to provide security for the Games. To carry out the new responsibilities of the RCMP a secretariat was created under C Division in Montreal, but was later transferred to Headquarters Division.

Historique de la conservation :

The records were created and maintained by Headquarters Division in Ottawa and by each of the divisions which were involved in the security of the Olympic games. At the end of the respective retention periods, the files were sent to the RCMP Archives Management Section for collection and review.

Photographic material may be found in boxes 4-6. Audio-visual material may be found in box 7 and may have been described in MISACS local accession no. 2000-0006 VSA. Architectural: technical drawings may be found in boxes 8-12.
