This accession consists of a variety of records created, accumulated and used by the staff of the B.C. Penitentiary from approximately 1960 to its closure in May of 1980. The majority of the records are central registry files concerning both administrative and operational activities. Other records include registers, log books, incident reports, surveys, plans and blueprints.
The records cover a broad range of subjects and events which include, but are not limited to, staffing, construction, escapes, inmate management, accommodation security and population returns.

These records were originally held in British Columbia. They were transferred to the National Capital Region in 2016 and are available for consultation there.
