Its mandate is to advise the Minister on matters pertaining to social welfare in Canada.
Composed of 21 members drawn from across Canada and appointed by the Governor-in-Council, it advises the Minister on such issues as income security, medicine, poverty lines, pension reforms, the working poor, and many many more.
