This map depicts part of the parish of Headingley, west of present-day Winnipeg. As is typical of Métis settlements, the land is divided into long and narrow river lots. This map shows the "outer two miles" of lots on both the north and the south sides of the Assiniboine River. This part of the river lots was used for hay and pasture and was highly contested between the Métis and later settlers. The map also depicts the development of the square lot system over and around the pre-existing river lot system.

The Anglican parish of Headingley was established in the 1850s, with the first church completed in 1854.

For more maps on Headingley, please see the series for the 535 classification., There are three versions of this map. This is the primary version, which indicates dimensions and acreage of lots and some physical features. The second version (Mikan/item number 4170809) is a print produced by the Burland Lithographic Company, Montreal, with similar information. The third version (Mikan/item number 4158019) is a transcript made in the Technical Division, Dominion Lands Administration (Department of the Interior), dated 24-1-31. It was traced by J. T. Chalifour, corrected by S. Williams and checked by T. A. Davis. It provides additional information concerning land ownership, which is not dated. This includes names of lot owners.
