Series consists of photographs created and/or maintained by the National Museums of Canada Corporation and its predecessor, the National Museum of Canada.
The largest accession in this series, 1979-298, consists of approximately 30,400 negatives (glass plate and nitrate) taken by staff in the Anthropological Division of the Geological Survey of Canada, and later the Anthropology and Biology Divisions of the National Museum of Canada, including ethnologists, anthropologists, ornithologists, and zoologists.
Subjects include, but are not limited to: native field work both archaeological and ethnographic; Canadian life and landscapes; portraits, cemeteries, daily life; tools and tradesmen; Native (Inuit) art; native field work (ethnographic); architecture, statues, household items (furniture, area rugs); Native art and sculpture, portraits, agriculture, dwellings, hunting, transportation, human osteology/archaeology. Museum exhibits (taxidermy), transportation, wildlife, agriculture, architecture/housing, Geological Survey; Arctic Expedition; nautical; ceremonial; habitation; flora, fauna, portraits. 1913-1921; Canadian Arctic Expedition & Canadian West (Natives); ships, hunting, flora, fauna, portraits, teepee construction, ranching, hunting camps; Saskatchewan grasslands; birds, taxidermy, farming tools, architecture, furniture, mountain ranges; dog sledding, huskies. Maritimes, fishing, lobster trapping, cliffs, coastal landscapes, religious artifacts, churches, houses, streetscapes, bridges, furniture.
