This photograph was taken on the medical ship, the C.D. Howe following the arrival of Mary (née Panigusiq) Cousins, the eldest daughter of the Kyak family. She served as the chief medical interpreter when the government was screening people for tuberculosis in the eastern Arctic.
Lazarus Kyak worked for Royal Canadian Mounted Police as a Special Constable. He and his family were relocated from Pond Inlet to Craig Harbour (Ellesmere Island) before the families from northern Quebec were relocated to the High Arctic.
