Sub-series consists of operational records of Quarantine and Regulatory Services. Many of these records (block 855) date from the early 20th century and deal with the operation of various inspection and surveillance programs, as well as diseases. Of particular note is block 855-1-4 (Radio Pratique Policy and Procedures, 1933-1971), 855-1-6 (Breach of Quarantine Regulations, 1941-1965), and the entire block 855-4 on specific diseases such as viral haemorrhagic fever, typhoid fever, cholera, smallpox, and yellow fever (1905-1978).

The responsibility for quarantine and immigration has also forged many links to other parts of the government. Agriculture (RG 17) was originally responsible for both quarantine and immigration (pre 1892); the Records of the Minister, the Deputy Minister, and the Secretary (1852-1920) will contain related records. In RG 76 (Immigration), researchers should look at the central registry series, which contain files relating to the inspection and quarantine of immigrants from 1892 to the present. There is also a thematic guide entitled "Records Relating to Grosse Isle Quarantine Station (Quebec) in the National Archives of Canada", which is available from the RG 76 archivist. RG 11 (Public Works), Series 2b Registers and Indexes, contains pre-Confederation registers from quarantine facilities (1826-1880). Other records relating to immigration and quarantine can be found in RG 12 (Transport), RG 30 (Canadian National Railways), RG 42 (Marine Branch) and RG 43 (Railways and Canals); please consult the archivist(s) responsible for these groups. Finally, RG 25 (External Affairs) contains information relating to international health activities which may be relevant to Canada's quarantine program.
