New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Railway Company : The New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Railway Company was incorporated on 8 April 1874 under New Brunswick Act, 37 Vic., Cap. 65 as the New Brunswick And Prince Edward Railway Company to construct a railway between a point on the Intercolonial Railway and Cape Tormentine, the nearest point to Prince Edward Island. Between 1883 and 1886 a 36 mile line was built between Sackville and Cape Tormentine. On 20 March 1889 the name was changed to the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Railway. In 1913 the Dominion government decided to make Cape Tormentine the New Brunswick terminus of the Prince Edward Island ferry service. Terminal facilities were put under construction and on 1 August 1914 the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Railway Company was purchased to become part of the Intercolonial system.
