Date :1677-1748Référence :R216-202-1-E, RG10-A-3-aGenre de documents :Documents textuelsTrouvé dans :Archives / Collections et fondsNo d'identification :157426Date(s) :1677-1748Équivalent bilingue :Lieu de création :Sans lieu, inconnu ou indéterminéÉtendue :0.4 m of textual recordsLangue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Series consists of the final two books only of the original four books of minutes of the Commissioners of Indian Affairs meeting at Albany, New York. The two books in National Archives custody cover the years 1722-1748 (Vols. 1819-1821). The series also includes a schedule of propositions made by the Indians and answers given to them, 1677-1714 (Vol. 1839). This latter item provides a synopsis of the contents of a portion of the earliest two books, records which are not part of the National Archives holdings and are presumed to be lost.Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Commission for Indian Affairs (Albany, New York) : The system which evolved under the Dutch, in which the regulation of trade and other local relations with the Indian population in the vicinity came under the direction of 'commissioners' at Albany, was continued during the English régime. The surviving records of the meetings and transactions between these Commissioners of Indian Affairs at Albany and the Indian population date from 1677. RG10 General InventoryInformation additionnelle :Source du titre :Title is based on the contents of the series.Historique de la conservation :A record of the transactions carried out between the Commissioners of Indian Affairs at Albany, New York, and the Indian population of the region dated from at least as early as 1677. Four books of such records were evidently bound in 1751 and came into the possession of Sir William Johnson when he became Superintendent of Indian Affairs in the northern colonies. The records subsequently passed to Guy Johnson and Sir John Johnson. All four volumes are understood to have survived together well into the 19th century. At some point the first two volumes, recording activities for the years 1677-1722, became separated from the two other books. It is only the latter two books, covering the years 1722-1748, which were transferred to the National Archives custody by the Department of Indian Affairs in 1907. These records are now contained in volumes 1819-1821. At some point prior to the disappearance of the first two volumes, a schedule of part of their contents was created. The circumstances of the creation of this document and of its acquisition by the National Archives are unclear. Titled "Schedule of Propositions made by the Indians, and answers given", this document records transactions carried out 1677-1714. It now constitutes volume 1839. McIlwain (Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard University Press, 1915).Note sur les autres formats physiques disponibles :Microfilmed copies of the records are available.Versements complémentaires :No further accruals are expected.Note(s) sur le contenant :C-1220 : microfilm copies (vols. 1819-1821) Copy No. 1
