Series consists of records of the Secretary-General covering the period 1987 to 1989. The records document the dispersal of power from the National Museums of Canada (NMC) as a Crown Corporation to the National Museum of Science and Technology, the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the Canadian Museum of Nature. The series includes records relating to the transfer of power, an instruction manual and the minutes of the NMC management committee for 1989.

National Museums of Canada. Secretary-General : Within the central management structure of the National Museums of Canada (NMC), the Secretary-General was appointed by the Governor in Council and had all the powers of a deputy minister. In his capacity as chief administrator of the NMC, the Secretary-General was responsible for seeing that the policies of the board were enacted. In addition, he supervised the direction and management of the business of the NMC on behalf of the board. RG132 General Inventory

Historique de la conservation :

After the dismantlement of the NMC in 1987, the records of the Secretary-General were transferred to the Department of Communications. In 1993 the records were transferred to the National Archives.
