0.6 m of textual records.Langue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Sub-series consists of textual and photograph records relating to the photographs Yousuf Karsh created for "Maclean's" magazine in 1952-1953 on sixteen Canadian cities. The first of these 'picture essays' appeared in the November 15, 1952 issue, and the last in the February 15, 1954 issue. There was a seven-and-a-half month gap between the release of the first series of ten cities and the second set of six cities. For the entire series, "Maclean's" used 280 black and white and 22 colour images. "Maclean's" made the final selection. The following cities were photographed: Vancouver, Charlottetown, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saint John, N.B., Regina, Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Victoria, Quebec City, St. John`s, Hamilton, Lakehead. Some negatives are found in the Individual Portrait Sittings Subseries. The 'multinegatives' are taped together with masking tape (several negatives sandwiched together to produce a single final image).
The textual records include correspondence, notebooks, printed material, background information, travel schedules, itineraries and records of expenses for each of the cities visited and photographed by Karsh. In addition, the series also contains correspondence with "Maclean's" magazine and with Karsh's own studio, as well as clippings and other printed material relating to the project.Source :Privé
