This accession consists of records that were generated by the Canadian National Railways Headquarters Committee for the Preservation of Railroad Historical Material. The Committee, which came under the auspices of the Research and Development Department was mandated to seek out and oversee the evaluation and preservation of historical documents and artifacts that recorded the Company's activities over time.
The records concern such subjects as the donation of railway locomotives, obsolete engine bells and other equipment to museums and other facilities/organizations across Canada and archival records deposited with the National Archives of Canada.
Also included are draft copies of manuscripts of G.R. Steven's 2-volume history of the Canadian National Railways and synoptical histories of wholly and partially-owned CN companies as at 1976, 1978 and 1979.
