Series consists of records created and maintained by the Office of the Food Controller. The records contain general correspondence with various provincial governments, industries and the Fuel Controller; also included is the summary of discussion at the Conference to Consider the Question of the Supply of Labour for Agriculture Purposes and the Increase of Agricultural Production, Ottawa, January 16-18, 1918.

Canada. Office of the Food Controller : The Office of the Food Controller was established by Order-in-Council on 16 June 1917, and W.J. Hanna was appointed Food Controller on 20 June of that year. The Food Controller was empowered to investigate the quantities, location, ownership and sources of supply of any food articles used by the people of Canada. He was also able to make regulations on the prices, storage, distribution and sale of food; food conservation; and the manufacture of food. The Office of the Food Controller was replaced on 11 February 1918 with the creation of the Canada Food Board (P.C. 1918-344), which reported to the Governor-in-Council through the Minister of Agriculture.
