Sub-series consists of records created and/or maintained by Canadian Artillery Units at Kingston, "A" Battery and the Royal School of Gunnery. Volumes 1-11 contain registers of letters received and sent by "A" Battery, 1871-1885, 1885-1900. The correspondence referred to in these registers is missing. A memo book from the School of Gunnery, 1872-1874 is found in volume 12.
The sub-series also includes letterbooks relating to "A" Battery and the Royal School of Gunnery covering the period 1873 to 1893 (Vols. 13-19). Volumes 14-16 relate to the period 1880-1885 when the Royal School of Gunnery was stationed in Quebec. Note that in Finding Aid 9-28, Vols. 13-19 are referred to as letterbooks of the Royal School of Gunnery, no mention is made of "A" Battery.
Volume 20 contains a correspondence book of "A" Battery while part of the North West Field Force, 11 November 1885 to 12 July 1886.
The sub-series includes records relating to daily and general orders. Volume 21 contains General Orders, 1871, authorizing the formation of two batteries of garrison artillery; general and regimental Order Book, 1871-1894, School of Gunnery and "A" Battery. Included are orders of the Artillery Brigade, North West Field Force, 1885-1886. The sub-series includes: Daily Orders of the Royal School of Gunnery at Kingston, 1881-1884 (Vols. 22-25); an order book of Commandant, Royal School of Gunnery (Vols. 26-27); Daily Orders, Royal School of Artillery, 1891-1892 (Vol. 26); Daily Orders, "A" Field Battery, RCA, 1898-1899 (Vol. 27). Note that Finding Aid 9-28 refers to volumes 26-27 as Order books of Commandant, Royal School of Gunnery.
Volume 28 contains seniority lists, non-commissioned offices of "A" Battery. Canadian Artillery and "A" Field Battery, RCA 1883-1898, of the RCFA, 1902-1905 and the RCHA, 1905-1907. Volume 29 (reel C-11775) contains a register of marriages of non-commissioned officers and men of the Artillery at Kingston, 1875-1915, with a record of the birth and baptism of their children.
