Fonds consists of correspondence, pocket diaries, business records, manuscripts and other material, largely dating from 1871 to 1900, relating to the American-born co-proprietor of the Seigneury of Perthuis near Portneuf, Québec, William Parker Greenough, with specific reference to the administration of the seigneury and to Greenough's interest in French-Canadian folk-life and folk-tales.

The fonds also contains photographs of the life of William Parker Greenough, his friends and family; the Perthuis Seigneurie, Portneuf and Lac Clair.

Also included are 6 sketchbooks, dating from 1873 to 1886, probably by William Parker Greenough.

Fonds also consists of a watercolour of Margaret Greenough by C.E. Moss.

Greenough, William Parker : Originally created in the year 1753, the Perthuis seigneury at Portneuf, Québec was purchased in 1841 by the American flour merchant James Greenough for its timber. In 1872, his son William Parker Greenough took over the supervision of the affairs of the seigneury and built a cabin on Lac Clair, on the property. Over the years, more buildings were erected and Greenough and his family set up residence. Between the years 1890 and 1893 Greenough worked to improve the fish stock in Lac Clair and the seigneury became a popular fishing and holiday camp for Greenough's American and Canadian friends, among whom he counted many well-known political and cultural figures of the day.

In 1897 William Parker Greenough published an account of Québec life, language, beliefs and songs, Canadian Folk-Life and Folk-Lore, illustrated by his son the American artist Walter Greenough (and reprinted by Coles in 1971). Green was also the author of articles on sport published in the American periodical Forest and Stream and of a novel, The Cruise of a Woman Hater.
