In addition, there are sound recordings of a 1939 talk by Manion about Adolf Hitler World War II and international relations that was broadcast by the CBC.
Manion, R. J. (Robert James), 1881-1943 : Robert James Manion, physician, born in 1881 at Pembroke, Ont., received his education from Queen's University, the University of Toronto, and Edinburgh University. He practised medicine at Fort William. During World War I, he served with the French army, and with the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
He was a Liberal Unionist and Conservative Member of the House of Commons, 1917-1940, serving as Member of the Privy Council, 1921, Minister of Soldiers' Civil Re-establishment, 1921, Postmaster General, 1926, Minister of Railways and Canals, 1930-1935, and Leader of the Conservative Party 1938-1940. He prepared a report on Auxillary Services in 1941 and was Director of Air Raid Precautions, 1942-1943.
