The microfilmed material consists of a collection of autograph letters signed by prominent persons active in Canadian affairs and addressed to Doughty, 1902-1913.
Photographic material consists of photographs acquired or taken by Sir Arthur Doughty during his lifetime.
Artistic material consists of watercolours, prints and drawings of historical events and figures in Canadian history including the first sale of furs at Garraway's Coffee House, the Taking of Quebec, the Hudson's Bay Company, François Laval de Montmorency, and the 3rd Earl of Bathurst.
Medallic items consists of 38 medals such as German propoganda medals, the Royal Society of Canada Flavelle medal, as well as Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire medal.Provenance :Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Doughty, Arthur G. (Arthur George), Sir, 1860-1936 : Sir Arthur Doughty, archivist and historian, was born on March 22, 1860 in Maidenhead, England. He was educated in England, and came to Canada in 1886. After a number of years spent in journalism and in the Quebec public service as joint librarian of the Legislative Library, he became Dominion Archivist in 1904, succeeding Douglas Brymner. He retired in 1935 and was created K.C.M.G. the same year. He authored and edited numerous works of prose and verse and of Canadian history. He collaborated with Adam Shortt to produce the sourcebook, "Documents Relating to the Constitutional History of Canada: 1759-1791" in 1907, and "Canada and Its Provinces" in 23 volumes, 1913-1917. He died in Ottawa on December 1, 1936.
