Fonds consists of reminiscences of C.S. Chard concerning the Trent Valley Waterways in the late nineteenth century includes a short history of the surrounding area; reminiscences relating to lumbering, trading and other experiences in Northern Manitoba and Northeast Saskatchewan, 1908-1910; service as a stationmaster and various items pertaining to Canadian railroads in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Minnesota, 1906-1915; a pamphlet on National Parks in the West and miscellaneous clippings; copies of an undated map of the Trent-Severn Waterway, a pamphlet on the O'Hara Mill Project, 1956, and an article on the Moira Conservation Authority, 1955; copy of an old family letter, 1853, and old settler's recipes.
Fonds also consists of photographs of the Chard family, ca. 1848, and a 1910 photograph of a horse-drawn water tank, used to maintain the ice surface of a log road in Crooked River, Sask.
Chard, C. S., born approximately 1866 : Clarence S. Chard wrote extensively about his life experiences, much of which occurred during the latter years of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Throughout his life, Chard has been employed in numerous industries. He was involved in the lumbering and trading industry in Northern Manitoba and Northeast Saskatchewan between 1908 and 1910. He was an employee of the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway (Stirling, Ont.). He then began a career with the Canadian Railway, and was station master in various stations in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan from 1906 to 1915.
