Fonds consists of scripts for radio commentaries prepared and broadcast by Mrs. Rotenberg over CBC between 1939 and 1964, reflecting her concern about the status of women, as well as her interest in science, education, social welfare and foreign affairs (volumes 1-4).

Rotenberg, Mattie, 1897-1989 : Mattie Rotenberg was born in Toronto and educated at the University of Toronto obtaining a Ph.D. in mathematics and physics. She was employed as a demonstrator in the university's physics laboratory from 1939 to 1968. As the mother of five children she took special interest in elementary education. Her concern about the quality of education in the public school system led her to help establish Hillcrest Progressive School in Toronto in 1929. Her other community involvements included writing editorials for the Hadassah Reporter.

In 1939, Mrs. Rotenberg began to make free-lance public affairs broadcasts over CBC radio on a program for women which came to be known as Trans-Canada Matinee. Her radio work was honoured in 1945 when she won the Memorial Award Competition held by the Canadian Women's Press Club for a radio broadcast entitled "The Post-War Woman", a copy of the broadcast is found in volume 1 of this collection.
