The series consists of textual records and photographs of the programs and projects of the International Council for Adult Education. It includes extensive files on the Workers' Education project; Literacy seminars; China Seminar and projects; Third World Women's project; the Women's Program; Political Economy of Adult Education project; Canada World Youth project; and Participatory Research Group. For the Participatory Research Group, the series includes photographs of its work with Aboriginal peoples in northern Ontario. In addition, there are records for less well-documented projects and programs concerning Prison Education, Libraries, Youth and Media, Primary Health Care, and Convergence (the journal of the ICAE). A substantial amount of the documentation was created by Margaret Gayfer who was the ICAE Program Officer for Women and Editor of Convergence for several years in the 1970s and 1980s.

There is overlap between this series and the Secretariat series, which also includes records of program officers, and, of course, the Archives series.
