Say College. He emigrated to the United States in 1904 where he worked at various labouring jobs until he developed the Bedaux efficiency system of time and motion studies. His Bedaux Company was highly successful with headquarters in the U.S. and branch plants in most European countries as well as the Union of South Africa and Australia. He was married to Fern Lombard of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He maintained a residence outside of Paris, the Chateau de Candé, where the Duke and Duchess of Windsor were married in 1937.
He undertook a number of expeditions in the 1930's. One expedition in 1929 to 1930 travelled by car and truck across Africa from Mombassa, Kenya to Casablanca in Morocco. He visited Canada in 1926 and 1932 on hunting and fishing expeditions and during his 1934 Bedaux-Canadian Sub-Arctic Expedition from Edmonton to Telegraph Creek across the mountains of northern British Columbia.
During 1942 he surveyed the building of an oil pipeline across the Sahara from Dakar to supply Vichy France. He was arrested by American forces in 1944, and died in a Miami jail while awaiting trial for treason.
