Fonds consists of textual material including personal and business related correspondence; research material including correspondence, news articles and notes accumulated by Martin Wolff from 1914 to 1936 for the preparation of a history on the railway transportation system in Canada; draft annotated manuscripts and transcripts of his railway history of the Canadian National; a final copy of the unpublished "Hisorical Narrative of the Inception and Development of the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada: Vol.3" complete with maps and charts; a scrapbook on the Boer War and Quebec social life; records relating to the Canadian Red Cross, Quebec Region, and Montreal Jewish Branch; files of correspondence dealing with Wolff's service on the Board of Shearith Israel Congregation, Montreal; and records relating to Miss A. Wolff's service to the Community of Sephardic Jews of Montreal. Also included is material relating to the Joseph family, Rosetta Joseph, member of the I.O.D.E., Irene Joseph and Horace Joseph.

Fonds also includes artist reproductions of cartoons concerning the First World War by the artist, Louis Raemaekers.

Also included in the fonds are photographs depicting lumber rafts on the Ottawa River; and the Martin Wolff survey party at the National Transcontinental Railway in Northern Ontario.

Wolff, Martin, 1881-1954 : Martin Wolff, of Jewish-German birth, was brought up and educated in England. He immigrated to Canada in 1906 and as a qualified engineer was employed in railway surveys and construction. He worked for various railways including the Canadian Northern, the National Transcontinental and the Canadian National. In 1915, he was attached to the Department of Militia and Defence in Quebec and in 1916 was employed by the Imperial Munitions Board.
