Fonds consists of correspondence, statistical reports, and memoranda including material sent to Wragge in his capacity of Toronto manager of the Grand Trunk, dealing with the construction of the Nipissing and James Bay railway, estimated costs, specifications, and levels and locations, 1893-1894, 2.5 cm; a letterbook and miscellaneous including letters, 1868-1873 and 1888, from Wragge to his wife, mother, and business associates from Panama, Costa Rica, and Canada; original letters from Sir Joseph Hickson, 1883, W.C. Horne 1888; and obituary of Edmund Wragge, 1929, microfilm reel M-2172.

Wragge, Edmund, 1837-1929 : Edmund Wragge was born in Worcestershire, England, and articled as an engineer. He worked on the construction of the first railway in South Africa, and returned to England in 1862 to supervise a number of notable projects.

In 1869 Wragge came to Canada as chief engineer in charge of the construction of the Toronto, Grey and Bruce Railway, and the Toronto Nipissing Railway. He was appointed Toronto manager of the Grand Trunk Railway in 1883 and retained that position until 1896 when he went to England to supervise the construction of the Great Central Railway facilities in London. Returning to Canada in 1904, Wragge practised as a consulting engineer in Toronto until his retirement in 1914.
