Fonds consists of records which chronicle Ronson's activities as a community leader, vice-chairman of the Human Rights Commission, and his involvement in the Anti-Defamation League/League of Human Rights. The fonds consists of various subject files and material relating to various organizations such as the Canadian Jewish Congress, B'nai B'rith, Canadian Council of Christians and Jews and Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital, n.d., 1927-1990.

Included in the fonds are photographs of Ronson with Chief Rabbi Rosen of Roumania at an Anti-Defamation League Commission meeting in New York; with Philippe de Gaspé-Beaubien, Jacques Courtois, and Dr. Daniel Thursz at a B'nai B'rith Award of Merit presentation, Montreal, 1979; with Conrad Black, Mrs. Black, Murray Shusterman, Betty Kennedy, Mr. Burton, and Frank Dimont at an awards dinner, Toronto, 1979; and a photograph of Julius Rosenblatt in front of his store on Queen Street, Toronto, [ca. 1924].

Also included in the fonds is a portrait of R. Lou Ronson, [ca. 1936].

The fonds also contains a sound recording entitled, Citation and Response marking the 50th Anniversary of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, [ca. 1960].

Ronson, R. Lou, 1915-2014 : R. Lou Ronson was born in Toronto on 21 February 1915. A graduate in chemical engineering from the University of Toronto and the Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1938, he began his career in the dry cleaning industry in 1939. During World War II he was on active service from July 1943 to November 1945. He was a sergeant instructor in an army school for NCO's. After the war he returned to the dry cleaning industry and rose to the position of President and Chief Executive Office of Sunshine Uniform Supply Co. Ltd. in 1970. Following a merger with twelve other companies, he assumed the presidency of Work Wear corporation in 1975.

From 1982 until his retirement in 1987 he served as Chairman of the Board. He served as a director and chairman of the audit committees of the Bank Hapoalim (Canada) and the Constitution Insurance Company of Canada.

Lou Ronson has been a member of B'nai B'rith, District 22 (Toronto Lodge) since 1939, serving one term as president from 1979 to 1980. Currently he is a member of the executive committee of B'nai B'rith International and National Archives Chairman of B'nai B'rai Canada. He was instrumental in separating various Canadian regions which were parts of American districts into one national Canadian district. He joined the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in 1956 and played a major role in its development. It was renamed the League of Human Rights (LHR) in 1970 and he served as its National Chairman from 1974 to 1975. The LHR's Annual Review on Anti-Semitism in Canada is funded from the R. Lou Ronson Research Institute on anti-Semitism. A proponent of harmonious Christian-Jewish relations, in 1973 he led the negotiations which resolved the bitter dispute between B'nai B'rith, District 22, and the United Church of Canada over its controversial editor, the Rev. A.C. Forrest and The Observer.

Lou Ronson was an active member and past chairman of the Joint Community Relations Committee of Canadian Jewish Congress and B'nai B'rith, Ontario Region from 1960 until its demise. For his dedicated humanitarianism he was appointed to the Ontario Human Rights Commission in 1985. He became Vice Chairman in 1986 and retired from the Commission in 1991. He has been associated with many community service organizations and institutions in various executive capacities. These include the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto since 1976, the Jewish Community Centre of Toronto, National Co-chairman of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews since 1977, president of the Canada-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Canada-Israel Committee, 1967-1980, vice-president of the Canadian Technion Society, national board member of Canadian Friends of Haifa University and the national executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress, 1971-1982.
