Warner Troyer hosts this edition of "The Public Eye" presenting a film documentary on education. Through interviews with students and educators in Toronto and England by Arthur Pape and footage of classroom discussions and activities, this film examines the real purpose of educational institutions. Public school teacher Betty Plewes maintains the current system is too regimented. Students claim schools are geared to what society wants; individual goals are ignored; and vocational guidance is inadequate. A top-grade student describes how she "cons" teachers. High School principal L.N. Hume asserts that schools need a "figurehead" and there must be consequences for disobeying rules and dress codes. G. MacGilchrist, Principal of a Toronto public school, expresses the view that learning should be geared to individual requirements. Footage of "Summerhill" and "Everdale Place", experimental schools in England, and interviews with administrators A.S. Neill and Robert Davis, reveal a student-oriented, non-authoritarian approach. <60mn>
